Resto Druid Vs Patch 4.3: T12 bonus or T13 bonus

Today I’m going to go over my view on when to upgrade from your Tier 12 (T12), to Tier 13 {T13). With bonuses involved for having a majority of the set, it can be a tough call on when to give it up to go with something new and shinier.

If you managed to get through enough of Firelands, chances are you have your Tier 12 4 piece (4pc) bonus. That is

“Your Swiftmend also heals an injured target within 15 yards for the same amount”

With my current set this means instead of healing ~16.6k with one Swiftmend, I’m doing a total of ~33.2l between two people while in the 4pc set. Free heals are great, and this is a great bonus.

With our T13 2pc bonus, we get

“After using Innervate, the mana cost of your healing spells is reduced by 25% for 15 sec.”

Really this just means that every 3 minutes we can reduce mana cost of spells for 15 seconds. It’s good since I usually use Innervate when I start running low on mana, but lame since it has such a large cool down.

Now looking at raw stats from Tier 13 versus our Tier 12, we see a substantial Int increase in most pieces. I’m just going to point our the gear from the LFR (Looking for Raid) drops, but obviously the normal and heroic versions will be increased.
*For convenience sake we’re not using DS epic gems in any sockets. Obviously if you chose to do so it would change the value of the gear even more. Also some gem choices for meta or yellow can vary, but have the same int.*

T12 Head: Max Int: 452 Int. (348 Int + 1 Meta Socket, 1 Yellow Socket [+30 Int Socket Bonus];
w/ 1 Ember Shadowspirit Diamond, 1 Reckless Ember Topaz & Socket bonus.)

T13 LFR Head: Max Int: 495 (371 Int + 1 Meta Socket, 1 Red Socket [+30 Int Socket bonus]; w/ Ember Shadowspirit Diamond, 1 Delicate inferno Ruby & Socket Bonus.)
Difference: T13 has 43 more Int.

T12 Shoulders: Max Int: 322 (282 Int + 1 Blue Socket [+10 Int Socket Bonus]; w/ Delicate Inferno Ruby).
T13 LFR Shoulders: Max Int: 440 int (280 Int + 2 Red Socket [+20 Int Socket Bonus]; w/ 2 Delicate Inferno Ruby & socket bonus.)
Difference: T13 has 118 more Int.

T12 Chest: Max Int: 448 Int (368 Int + 1 Yellow Socket, 1 blue Socket [+20 Int Socket Bonus]; w/ 2 Delicate Inferno Ruby.)
T13 LFR Chest: Max Int: 501 Int (371 Int + 2 Red Socket, 1 Yellow socket [+30 Int Socket Bonus], w/ 2 Delicate Inferno Ruby, 1 Reckless Ember Topaz & Socket Bonus.)
Difference: T13 has 53 more Int

T12 Hands: Max Int: 332 Int (282 Int + 1 Red Socket [+10 Int Socket Bonus]; w/ Delicate Inferno Ruby & Socket Bonus.)
T13 LFR Hands: Max Int: 340 Int (300 Int + 1 Blue Socket [+10 Int Socket Bonus]; w/ Delicate Inferno Ruby.)
Difference: T13 has 18 more Int.

T12 Legs: Max Int: 428 Int (368 Int + 2 Red Sockets [+20 Int Socket Bonus]; w/ 2 Delicate Inferno Ruby & Socket Bonus.)
T13 LFR Legs: Max Int: 481 Int (391 Int +3 Red Sockets [+30 Int Socket Bonus]; w/ 3 Delicate Inferno Ruby & Socket Bonus.)
Difference: T13 has 53 more Int.

Now with all that said and done if you get the two lowest pieces (Head & Hands) you get an increase of 61 Int with two pieces. With the highest pieces (Shoulder & Chest or Legs) you get an increase of 171.

This of course doesn’t take into consideration secondary stats. Most items have spirit, so that shouldn’t be an issue. Haste on the other hand, you’ll need to do some reforging to do. The shoulders have mastery instead of haste, which will put you back by 201 (without reforging). Honestly though, at this point reforging some crit or mastery to haste shouldn’t be difficult.

That brings up the question: Is the increased Int and T12 2pc bonus worth losing your T12 4pc?
In my opinion, if you can get the shoulders and any other piece go for it. As much as you may use Swiftmend, the raw throughput of the additional 118+ Int on your other spells will make up for the difference. This could be debated if you use Swiftmend on CD every time and don’t account for possible overhealing, but in a real-time use scenario having the increased Int will prove more useful. In addition, the reduced mana costs, as little as they may be, will help as you progress through raid content.

What are you thoughts on this? Are you going to make the jump, or hold off for the 4pc T13 bonus? Let me know in the comments.
